Dad, I wanted to dig through all the old photos, find the perfect ones, put them in the perfect order, and say all the right things. But I needed to talk to you now. I lost you this week - I know you didn’t want me to cry or hurt too much when you passed, but I need you first. I know you said how proud you were of me a million times. I just need you to know I am so proud of YOU; the way you could create fun and joy in every moment no matter how small, the fierce love you brought to those around you, the way you cared about people who didn’t have much money, who didn’t have enough love, who didn’t have enough support - you broke any wall standing between you and anything preventing you from being there for them. You believed that every person deserved a fighting chance. You saved my life, and I yours. You were my world, and I know I was yours too. This isn’t goodbye - between you and I there will never, ever be goodbye.

I’m with you always and you’re always with me. We had some damn good times. Good doesn’t even cut it. Great times. Beautiful times. Time filled with so much love that only few are fortunate enough to experience. So much joy. Don’t ever forget that, and know that I never will either.

I knew we weren’t perfect to each other always, and I apologize for any times I wasn’t. I carried you in my heart on my sleeve at all times. All times. I always will. I wish I could talk to you one more time and vocalize much I thought about, worried about, laughed about, and cared about you. My logical side knows that you already know that.

My broken side worries that I needed more time with you to make sure you knew you were and always will be my hero, Dad. I look up to you and always have, more than anyone else.

You were so intelligent, so beautiful, so thoughtful, so talented, and so You. You never swayed from being YOU.

I haven’t learned all the lessons I have to learn from you, but I will. You taught me so well. You nurtured me so well. You’re going to keep teaching me.

I love you with all my heart. I miss you with everything, and I mean everything, I’ve got.
